“Home is where the heart is” and even if you aren’t a full-timer, your RV is more than just a vehicle for recreation. It is your home away from home. As such, it is a good idea to make it as comfortable and appealing as possible.
Although many RVers like to spend their time enjoying the outdoors and making new friends, they often overlook creating an exterior environment that is welcoming and homey. The best way to make your motorhome comfy is to decorate it as you would your house or apartment. Make it a reflection of your style and personality, as well as the things that are important to you. Your neighbors should be able to get a basic idea of who you are by seeing how you live. The following tips are provided to help make your rig homier.
Keep It Clean and Clutter-free
A well-kept environment is always homier than a dirty and cluttered one. Make sure to frequently wash and wax the exterior of your motorhome. This not only keeps it looking good, but also helps maintain the integrity of the paint job and avoid rust.
Make sure to keep the surrounding area tidy, as well. Most campgrounds have rules prohibiting leaving your trash lying around. It also invites rodents, ants, and other wildlife to your location. Plus, it’s difficult to create an aesthetic and pleasing environment in the midst of chaos and filth.
Establish Your Space
A well-established space is automatically more comfortable, especially if you plan to stay there for a while. Define the perimeter of your space with outdoor carpeting, a patio rug, or awning. Furnish and decorate it, then use it as you would a porch, patio, or deck.
Choose lawn chairs or patio furnishings that complement the exterior of your RV or camper and place them within this space. Provide ambiance with citronella candles, Tiki torches, or awning lights and add comfort by accessorizing with outdoor throw pillows. Take your meals out there and invite your neighbors for an impromptu get-together.
Hang Decorative Lights
Decorative lights add atmosphere, as well as provide illumination. Choose a color and style that complements the paint job of your motorhome or the color of the outdoor decor. Some RVers use electric lanterns for a touch of romance.
For a dynamic twist, hang LEDs that change color every few minutes, such as a waterproof RGB color changing flexible LED kit with a controller. You could also rotate the colors that you use to correspond to holidays of the changing seasons. For example, orange or purple lights look great during the autumn months near Halloween. White, red, and blue are festive additions for Independence Day.
Decorate Around the Entrance
Probably the most obvious and easiest thing you can do to make your motorhome more aesthetically appealing is to personalize the entrance. Place a seasonal wreath or a welcoming sign on or near the door to make it attractive and inviting. Adding something as simple as a doormat with the word “welcome” emblazoned across it speaks volumes.
Have a custom sign or doormat made with your family name, creed, or an amusing or inspirational saying on it. This sort of introduction is an instant icebreaker. Add decorative pumpkins and gourds, or potted plants on one or both sides of the entrance. Take it a step farther by hanging plants or lanterns from the awning braces.
Make a statement without saying a word. Even the tiniest campers become more home-like with a few personal touches. By following these tips, you are certain to make your RV the amazing abode you want it to be. If you found these hints helpful, please share to inspire your friends and family. Together, we can make the world a more beautiful place.
